The Provosty Vorsfelde , based in Wolfsburg-Vorsfelde, is one of 12 sub-districts of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braunschweig .

history

The Provost Office in Vorsfelde goes back to the church superintendent established in Vorsfelde in 1746 . Before that, the von Bartensleben family in Vorsfelde and Vorsfelder Werder, who lived on Wolfsburg , held the church patronage since the Middle Ages . The aristocratic family was closely connected to Vorsfelde, as the St. Petrus Church had been the patronage church since 1475 and was their burial place for a time in the 16th century. After the extinction of their sex by the death of the last male representative Gebhard Werner von Bartensleben in 1742 that fell feud over Vorsfelde and Werder and therefore the church patronage to the Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel home . This resulted in the Vorsfelde office .

In 1746, the Brunswick Duke Charles I set up a church superintendent in Vorsfelde by dividing the superintendent in Königslutter . The new inspection in Vorsfelde included Bahrdorf, Calvörde, Grafhorst, Groß Twülpstedt, Saalsdorf, Velpke, Volkmarsdorf, Vorsfelde and Uthmöden. One of the first measures taken by the Vorsfeld superintendent was the expansion of St. Peter's Church on the orders of Duke Charles I. It took place between 1749 and 1751 and included the construction of a transept to increase the number of seats to 800.

Provost and Provost

The Provosty Vorsfelde has 20 parishes with around 22,000 parishioners (as of 2019). There are 13.25 parish priests (note: 1/4 parish position means that the pastor of a parish is available to a parish with 25% of his otherwise available time). Ulrich Lincoln has been the spiritual director of the provost since 2016. The official seat is Wolfsburg-Vorsfelde. The provost administration and the center of the provost board elected by the provost synod and consisting of four members, headed by the provost and his deputy, are located there.

The provost administration is located in Vorsfelde opposite the St. Petrus Church. Originally it was housed there in a rectory from the 17th century. The superintendent had his residence there since 1746. After the building became dilapidated, a new building was built on the site between 1798 and 1801, in which the provost's office is still located today.

Prophe area

Most of the Provost's office in Vorsfelde is in the state of Lower Saxony and a smaller part in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . For historical reasons, an exclave in the area around Calvörde ( Borde district ) belongs to it , since this area belonged to the Calvörde office and thus to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel including the successor states since 1571 . This affiliation was interrupted after the Second World War and the church did not return to the provost office until 1992 after German reunification . In the north, the Propsteig area is roughly congruent with the historical landscape of the Vorsfelder Werder and the area of the Vorsfelde office . The provost is on the northeastern edge of the Braunschweigische Landeskirche. It borders on the Propstei Helmstedt in the south. The Propstei includes 42 places that are in the independent city of Wolfsburg and in the districts of Gifhorn , Helmstedt and Börde . About half of the church members live in the area of the city of Wolfsburg.

Provost Synod

The ultimate decision-making body of the provost is every six years to be elected provost Synod . The parishes send 30 delegates to this synod, supplemented by four appointed members and members by virtue of office (provost and deputy).
