history

Parsau was first mentioned in documents around 1505 as Barso , 1510 as Persauw . The name comes from the Old Slavic prabû for dust or borû for pine, so something like "place near the pine forest." Parsau was Brunswick ; the border with the Principality of Lüneburg was between Ahnebeck and Croya. The original village shape was that of a Wendish round . In 1561 the first church was built in the area of Vorsfelder Werder in Parsau, and in 1567 the first school.

In 1742, the Vorsfelde office was founded, to which Parsau also belonged. A description made on the occasion of a land survey in 1757 mentions, among other things, 28 courtyards in Parsau , a half-timbered church with a small bell tower and a school. A jug (restaurant), a mill, a forge and a brickworks were not available in Parsau at that time.

In 1807 the office of Vorsfelde was dissolved by the French occupying forces, after which Parsau belonged to the canton of Vorsfelde in the Helmstedt district , in the Oker department of the Kingdom of Westphalia, until 1813 . In the 19th century Parsau came to the newly founded district of Helmstedt . In 1828 the dilapidated church was replaced by a new building, and its tower was added in 1910. from 1846 to 1849 the separation took place in Parsau . According to a settlement register from around 1850, there were 31 farms at that time. The Drömling lowland begins immediately east of Parsau. Like the other neighboring villages, the place had wood parts in the quarry forest area for centuries until modern times. In 1851 the Rundling was pierced with a road to the east. In 1866 a brick factory was opened southwest of Parsau . There were once two windmills in the area north of Parsau . The Holländermühle built in 1876 was demolished in 1925. The post mill was built in 1843 and demolished in 1926. The windmills were replaced by the motor mill of a village dairy cooperative.

In 1909 a volunteer fire brigade was founded in Parsau and the train station was built, and in 1919 a war memorial was erected. In 1935 the brickworks were closed again and the Polle farm is located in its place today. On April 11, 1945, shortly before the end of World War II, American troops from Bergfeld took Parsau. In 1949 a public library was founded in Parsau, in 1955 the cold house was built and the cold house cooperative founded. From 1972 the municipality of Parsau belonged to the joint municipality of Rüßen . In the same year she came from the Helmstedt district to the Gifhorn district. On March 1, 1974, the joint municipality of Rüßen was dissolved. On March 15, 1974, the municipality of Parsau became part of the combined municipality of Brome. In 1974, a half-timbered house built in 1655 was moved to Braunschweig-Riddagshausen , where it is today on the road between the streams .

Christ Church

Christ Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church on Hauptstrasse was built in 1828/29 and a tower was added in 1910. In addition to Parsau, its parish also includes Ahnebeck and Bergfeld; since July 1, 2012, it has formed a parish association with the Evangelical Lutheran parishes of Ränen and Brechtorf-Eischott. The Christ Church is the northernmost church of the Provosty Vorsfelde , and thus belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig . Its simple interior is closed off by a flat ceiling and offers around 180 seats. In 1561 the first church was built in Parsau to save the inhabitants of Parsau the long way to the St. Petrus Church in Vorsfelde. The services in the Parsau church were initially held by priests from Vorfeld. In 1828 the now dilapidated half-timbered church was demolished and replaced in 1829 by today's church building made of Velpker sandstone . The parsonage was built in 1896 , but a pastor did not live in Parsau until 1907. The tower, which stands on the east side and is also made of Velpker sandstone, was added to the church in 1910. After one of the two bells had to be handed in during the First World War in 1917, the second, remaining bell was removed and two steel bells purchased in 1925. In 1977/78 the church was extensively renovated and redesigned, including relocating the entrance from the west to the east, installing an organ gallery and purchasing new church stalls. The church was consecrated again on December 3, 1978, and a new organ was installed in 1979. The parish also includes the Parsau cemetery.

Kreuzkirche

Another church is the Baptist Kreuzkirche in Hehlertstrasse 1 from 1900. The congregation was founded in 1889 and a parish hall has already been built. In 1905 80 of the 551 inhabitants of Parsau were Baptists. The church has recently been expanded with an extension.

St. Raphael Church

The Catholic St. Raphael Church was built in 1962/63 as a branch church of the parish of St. Michael in Vorsfelde, to which it still belongs today. Their parish was formed when, from 1945/46 onwards, Catholic refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Reich settled in Parsau, which has been evangelical since the Reformation , and the surrounding villages. The church, named after the Archangel Raphael , is located on Bahnhofstrasse and belongs to the Hildesheim diocese .

The fly agaric day care center is located next to the community center in Parsau. The sponsor is the Förderverein Kindertagesstätte Parsau eV , to which at least one family member of the children must belong to be able to use the daycare center. The facility offers 50 places in 4 groups for children between the ages of two and six. It goes back to a game group founded in 1984, which was initiated by parents and initially housed in a former shop. In 1987 the foundation stone was laid for today's daycare center, and it was completed in the same year. An extension for a second kindergarten group was built in 1993/94.

There is a primary school in Parsau , which was created in 1995 through the division of the village community school in Rorien, and is supported by the joint municipality of Brome. In 1567, a school was built in Parsau for the first time, it was described as dilapidated in 1757 and replaced by a new building in 1825. Due to the population growth in Parsau in the second half of the 19th century, this school building was soon too small and demolished, and in 1894 it was replaced by a larger new building. Today this serves as the municipal administration and is the office of the mayor.

railroad

Former station building in Parsau from 1909 with old tracks

Parsau and Croya each have a closed train station on the western outskirts as well as disused track systems that belonged to the Wittingen – Oebisfelde small railway line, which was inaugurated in 1909 . The line used by the OHE ( Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen ) from 1944 onwards came to a standstill at the end of June 1945 when the German-German border was drawn on the Rüllen– Oebisfelde section . It was initially used in a northerly direction ( Wittingen ). In the south, the line remained in operation as far as Rühren station, where passengers heading for Wolfsburg could transfer to buses. The next train station, Grafhorst , was already in the Soviet occupation zone . Passenger traffic was discontinued at the end of May 1974. Until 2003 there was still freight traffic on the route to the north: The Parsau company Lichtnack was supplied with stones. From 1979 the company had its own siding branching off from the direction of Rüßen. The track section in the direction of Rühren was used to park freight cars until 2004. Today the closest operating train stations are Wolfsburg around 16 kilometers away and Oebisfelde around 17 kilometers away.
