  • Gut Warxbüttel: Instead of today's Gut Warxbüttel, there used to be Werckesbuttle. The place was first mentioned in 1338, but after its last mention in 1418, it probably fell into desolation in the 15th century. In 1850 the "von Marenholz" built a moated castle that is still preserved today. The castle remained in the possession of the von Marenholz until 1968 before it was sold to Schulte Uemmingen.

Swell:

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1226 and belongs to the Büttel localities. As one of the first congregations in a wide area, Adenbüttel introduced Protestant worship in 1524 during the Reformation. This makes the church in Adenbüttel one of the earliest Protestant preaching sites in Lower Saxony. The current church was built in neo-Gothic style in 1865/66. The base of the tower comes from the previous church from 1619. In the first half of the 20th century there was a potash mine ; the village grew. Adenbüttel belonged to the Braunschweig administrative district until December 31, 2004 , which was dissolved as a result of administrative reform at the end of this date.

Deserted settlements

In the vicinity of Adenbüttel there are several deserted areas , some of which are now outside the current municipality mark. All of these settlements fell desolate between the 13th and 16th centuries. The following are explicitly demonstrable:

  • "Algesbüttel" was northeast of Adenbüttel
  • "Arnsbüttel" was about 800 m southwest of Adenbüttel
  • "Werckesbuttle" was located on the site of today's Gut Warxbüttel

Lords of Marenholtz

From chronicles it can be seen that from 1454 in Adenbüttel a church loan was granted by "Curd von Marenholtz". The “von Marenholtz” already had the right of patronage in Adenbüttel at that time . After the merging of the parishes of Rethen and Adenbüttel in the first half of the 16th century, the gentlemen of Rethen (right of patronage in Rethen) and the gentlemen of Marenholtz shared the right of patronage in the united parish. Over time, however, the right passed more and more to the von Marenholtz family. The right of patronage only expired in 1968 with the death of the last patron ( Baron von Marenholtz-Nolde) and the sale of the Warxbüttel estate.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring community of Rolfsbüttel was incorporated.

Place name

Earlier place names of Adenbüttel were Adenebutle around 1220 and Adenbutel in 1343 and Adenbotele in 1374. In the first part of the place name is the old first name Ado, Atto, Adon. This short name probably belongs to the abbreviated tribe athal, Germanic for "nobility".

Attractions

Adenbütteler mill

The Adenbütteler Mühle is a Dutch windmill built in 1872 . It is located about halfway between Adenbüttel and Rethen. As early as 1867, a miller tried to get permission to build a mill between Adenbüttel and Rethen. However, the permit was refused at the instigation of the other millers, as they were concerned about the existence of their own mills. Only a new miller finally received approval in 1871 and completed the building by 1872. The mill changed hands several times in the following years and over the years a steam engine and several sheds were added. In 1923, a spacious new mill with four roller mills and a warehouse was built. The mill was leased and sold several times before the last owner closed it down in 1965. After the mill stood still for a long time and fell into disrepair, it was restored in the 1990s and converted into a residential building.

Mining

In the first half of the 20th century there was a potash mine in Adenbüttel. In addition, ore drilling was carried out in 1960/61 in the parcels "Auf der Heide" and "Armbüttel".

  • School : A three-class school was built in Adenbüttel as early as 1953. However, this was later closed again. Adenbüttel has only had a primary school again since the mid-1990s. Afterwards, the local children and young people attend secondary schools in Meine, Gifhorn and Braunschweig.
  • Fire brigade and civil protection : Both Adenbüttel and the district of Rolfsbüttel each have their own volunteer fire brigade . The Adenbüttel fire brigade was founded in 1883. coat of arms

Blazon : “In blue a symmetrical golden chapel with a bell tower on the front, touching the upper and both lateral lower shield edges, accompanied by a golden“ 12 ”in the front of the shield and a golden“ 26 ”at the back, topped with a growing from the shield edge , the five-fold rooted green oak trunk encompassing the red shield base, from which alternately five oak leaves and four acorns sprout. "

The coat of arms was declared the official coat of arms of the municipality of Adenbüttel in 1976 and is intended to represent the history of the place. The number 1226 is the first documented mention. The representation of the church reminds us that Adenbüttel was the first community in a wide area to introduce evangelical worship during the Reformation in 1524, which made Adenbüttel important in regional history. The green oak symbolizes agriculture and forestry that used to be the norm. The roots of the oak refer to an earlier fragmentation of the community, the trunk to overcoming it and later growing together.
