Geographical location

Osloß is located between the Südheide and Drömling an der Aller nature parks . The Barnbruch , an internationally recognized nature reserve, is located south of Osloß .

history

The place name Osloß is derived from the noble family Uslefs, who owned a castle or chateau here around 800 AD. In 1274 Osloß appears under the name Osleue , in 1309 it is called Uslussen and around 1566 it is called Osselesse . Osloß was almost completely destroyed by a major fire in 1883 and, during the reconstruction, relocated from the all-flooded area to a flood-proof location along the current federal highway 188 .

From 1882 to 1977 Osloß was the location of a post mill built in Neuhalderleben in 1816 . This was acquired in 1977 by the district of Gifhorn as the only one of its kind and in 1980 it was given to the Gifhorn Museum and Local History Association as a monument in a restored condition. It can now be seen in the Gifhorn Mill Museum.

Today (2016) there are almost 2,000 inhabitants in Osloß. The trade in Osloß is represented by several trade and craft businesses and a restaurant. There is also a doctor's practice, a primary school, a kindergarten and a community center that can be used for sports activities.
