history

Volksbank BraWo emerged in 2005 from the merger between Volksbank Braunschweig eG and Volksbank eG Wolfsburg . Its roots go back through the Fallerslebener Volksbank from 1871 eG to the year 1871.

In 1881 the savings and advance payment association was founded in Vorsfelde . In 1938 a collection point was opened in Rühren and in 1939 a payment point in the city ​​of the KdF-Wagen (today Wolfsburg). In 1940 the association was renamed Volksbank Vorsfelde . After the end of the Second World War , both branches were given up again. New branches opened in 1953 in Rümmer , 1960 in Hehlingen , 1962 in Kästorf and Reislingen , 1963 in Vorsfelder Südstadt, 1965 in Meinstraße and 1969 in Tiddische . In 2000 Volksbank Vorsfelde eG merged with Volksbank Gifhorn eG into Volksbank Wolfsburg.

In 1910 Gustav Frede founded the Grundbesitzerbank zu Braunschweig eGmbH , which was renamed Grundbesitzer- und Handelsbank eGmbH in 1924 and Volksbank Braunschweig eGmbH in 1941 . In 2005 it merged with Volksbank eG Wolfsburg to form today's Volksbank BraWo.

In 1914 a savings and loan bank was founded in Tülau , which developed into Volksbank Tülau eG . Around 1978 she had offices in Bergfeld , Parsau , Rüßen and Tülau. It merged around 1990 with Volksbank Vorsfelde, which in turn merged into Volksbank Wolfsburg in 2000 together with Volksbank Gifhorn.

On January 25, 1925, the Heßlingen-Rothenfelder Savings and Loan Fund Association eGmbH was founded in Heßlingen . The Genossenschaftsbank Papenteich and later Volksbank Papenteich eG Meine emerged from the savings and loan fund Meine . It was affiliated with Volksbank eG Gifhorn .

In April 2013, Volksbank BraWo entered private banking . To this end, the employees of Credit Suisse's private banking division in Braunschweig were taken over and the Braunschweiger Privatbank was founded.

With effect from January 1, 2016, the bank merged with Volksbank Peine eG .

BraWoPark

Volksbank eG Braunschweig Wolfsburg was the main investor in the BraWoPark building project, one of the largest private-sector building projects in Braunschweig. The ensemble, which consists of two "business centers" and a "shopping center", was inaugurated at the end of 2015. The location is the former 75,000 square meter site of the Deutsche Post near the Braunschweig main station . The total investment amounts to around 130 million euros, of which Volksbank BraWo is contributing 110 million euros.

Office and retail space were created in the BraWoPark. Among other things, a retail park and the largest Edeka store in Lower Saxony with 6,500 square meters of retail space have opened here. An InterCityHotel operated by Deutsche Hospitality was opened in November 2016.

social commitment

Part of the social activities is an annual distribution of the income from profit saving. The income of the profit saving community founded in 1952 flow u. a. to local sports clubs . In 2019, around 180,700 euros went to regional organizations.

The Volksbank BraWo Foundation was established in 2005 with endowment capital of 10 million euros. According to its own information, the Volksbank increased the foundation capital in two steps to 30 million euros. Together with the United Kids Foundations children's network, which was also founded in 2005 by Volksbank BraWo, the foundation has supported more than 425 projects in the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg region so far, which have benefited over 52,250 children and young people. A donation initiative at the end of 2015 raised a total of 12.8 million euros. One of United Kids Foundations' goals is to combat child poverty in the region.

In 2015, the Volksbank BraWo Foundation was the first foundation in the entire Braunschweig-Wolfsburg region to receive the donation seal from the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) . The DZI donation seal was renewed in 2016.

The non-profit subsidiary Engagementzentrum , which operates a crowdfunding platform for the region, belongs to Volksbank BraWo .
