The Eichelkamp is a district of Wolfsburg .
The district is located southwest of the city center, directly on the city forest. Dunantplatz is the central point and offers shopping opportunities on a small scale.
history
Before 1950 the area of today's Eichelkamp district was not built on, but the road from Wolfsburg to Mörse ran through it. With the opening of Braunschweiger Straße in 1951, the old street lost its importance, today it mainly only exists as a footpath and bike path (between Dunantplatz and Schützenhaus).
Housing construction began in 1956, and in the same year a merchant from Heßlingen opened a grocery store in the new district. In 1957/58 the development on Dunantplatz was built and a post office was opened there in 1959. In 1959, lessons began in the newly built Eichelkamp Forest School (elementary school X). The terrace café (now a restaurant) was built around 1961 . In 1962 a 19-storey high-rise was built in the forest north of Eichelkamp, at that time it was one of the tallest buildings in Wolfsburg. In 1963 Dunantplatz was enriched with a fountain system. In 2007 the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover took over the sponsorship of the Eichelkamp Forest School, and since 2010 the school has been supported by a sponsoring association.
politics
The Eichelkamp forms, together with the neighboring districts Hageberg , Hohenstein , Klieversberg , Laagberg , Rabenberg and Wohltberg the town center-west , by a Ortsrat is represented. The local mayor is Matthias Presia ( SPD ).
