Location in Wolfsburg

Heiligendorf is a district in the south of Wolfsburg ( Lower Saxony ). The place is on the Schunter .

history

Heiligendorf was probably founded between 500 and 800 AD. Presumably, the village was founded by the Franks to protect against the Slavs and used as an outpost for Christianization and conquest. The then Heiligenthorp was first mentioned together with the Klein Heiligendorf farm in 1153. Due to poor sandy soil and the frequent occurrence of the plague, Klein Heiligendorf was abandoned by its inhabitants, who moved to the agriculturally more attractive Heiligendorf. Until the 16th century Heiligendorf was in Fallersleben, but in 1588 it went to Duke Wilhelm of Braunschweig and Lüneburg .

The dairy cooperative was founded in 1892, together with the villages of Almke , Barnstorf , Beienrode , Hattorf and Neindorf .

On July 1, 1972, Heiligendorf, which comes from the Gifhorn district , was incorporated into the city of Wolfsburg in accordance with the Wolfsburg law .

politics

Heiligendorf, together with the neighboring district of Hattorf, forms the village of Hattorf-Heiligendorf , which is represented by a local council. The local mayor is Marco Meiners (FDP).
