Teichbreite is a district of Wolfsburg , which is located in the village of Nordstadt .

Cityscape

The Teichbreite district came into being in the 1960s. It is located between the districts of Alt-Wolfsburg , Tiergartenbreite and Vorsfelde as well as the Allerpark , south of the Neuer Teich . The district consists mainly of high-rise buildings and apartment blocks. There are also two small shopping centers, an evangelical community center and a school.

From the 16th century to 1910 there was a windmill belonging to the Wolfsburg estate in the area of ​​today's pond width, the street name "Windmühlenbreite" still reminds of it today.

In 1938, the year the city was founded, the area of ​​today's pond width was not built on; however, the "Neuer Teich" and "Alter Teich" ponds were already there. They are both mentioned under this name on historical maps from around the 16th century. Development in the area of ​​today's district was planned as early as 1941, but this was initially not implemented due to the war.

In 1959 residential construction began by VW-Wohnungsbau gGmbH, and in 1960 the first apartments were occupied. In 1964 the Brothers Grimm School (elementary school XII., Today Leonardo da Vinci elementary school) began teaching. Also in the 1960s, the shopping center was built on the western edge of the pond width, it was demolished in the 1980s and replaced by a new building located in the same place, which is also to be demolished from 2019. In 1968 the evangelical St. Thomas parish hall was built. This completed the development of the district and since then only minor changes have been made.

In the east, around 2010, immediately adjacent to the width of the pond, the Bürgerkämpe building area was built as a new building area with single and multi-family houses, but which belongs to the Vorsfelde district. Also on the eastern edge of the pond width, Volkswagen Immobilien GmbH built seven new apartment blocks, known as the Drömlingshöhe residential park , between 2012 and 2014 .

Churches

St. Thomas Community House

The only church in the width of the pond is the St. Thomas House of the Evangelical Lutheran northern municipality, it was built in 1968 and inaugurated on January 19, 1969. The original plan was to build a church with a bell tower next to the parish hall, but this was never realized. The services take place in the community hall. In January 2012, the St. Thomas Congregation and the St. Marien Congregation merged to form today's Nordstadt Congregation . Catholics living in the district belong to the nearby St. Bernward Church in the neighboring district of Alt-Wolfsburg.

In the immediate vicinity of the pond width there is a forest area with the natural monument Alter Teich , the Allerpark with the Allersee and many other leisure facilities, as well as the castle park .

Economy and Infrastructure

Companies

The width of the pond consists mainly of residential developments, so that apart from a few retail and service businesses, no companies are based in the district. The rental apartments belong to Volkswagen Immobilien GmbH , which also operates its district office for Nordstadt in Teichbreite .

In the width of the pond there are some retail shops for daily needs, including an EDEKA and Penny market, a bakery sales point , a pharmacy and a hairdressing salon. The shopping center with the EDEKA store was closed in August 2019 and is to be replaced by a new building. The only restaurant in the district, the Teichklause , which has existed since the 1960s , closed at the end of 2017. The only bank in the district, a branch of Dresdner Bank , was closed several years earlier.

Road traffic

The entire width of the pond is designated as a 30 km / h zone . The federal highway 188 leads directly past the district, the federal highway 39 runs around six kilometers from the pond width. Bus routes operated by Wolfsburger Verkehrs GmbH connect the district with the city center and various other districts of Wolfsburg.

Public facilities

The Nordstadt police station was located in the shopping center on Allerstrasse until 2019, and has temporarily moved into the multi-generation house.

education

The Rappelkiste curative education kindergarten is the only day care center in the district, it has existed since August 2015 and is supported by the Wolfsburg charity.

The Leonardo da Vinci primary school, a bilingual school (German / Italian), is the only school in the district. It is located in the building of the former Brothers Grimm School, later DIGS.
