The Alter Teich natural monument is a natural monument on the edge of the Wolfsburg districts Teichbreite , Tiergartenbreite and Vorsfelde . The protected status of some 5 ha large pond was made in 1978 to the diverse animal and plant life in the former brickyard of a possible use as landfill to preserve.
description
The pond was created in earlier centuries as a clay extraction point for a brick factory , in which water later collected. The old pond is already mentioned under this name in historical maps from around the 16th century, as is the new pond a few hundred meters away . 300 m north of the old pond there was a brickworks and other clay extraction points until 1970, which were later filled with waste. To create the pond, a dam was built on its west side to prevent water runoff. The flat East Area is the passage of time silted . The pond is fed by a drainage ditch from nearby fields. The pond drainage leads to the new pond .
The small-scale pond has a great attraction as a recreational area for the residents of the nearby residential areas. There is a diverse animal world, especially birds, in the idyllic waterfront with large reed stands. Access, but not as far as the pond, is possible via the K 51 district road between the Wolfsburg districts of Tiergartenbreite and Vorsfelde .
On the south side of the pond there are still old boundary stones that were valid here until 1864. The dammed water itself belonged to the Prussian enclave of Wolfsburg Castle , the southern area to the Duchy of Braunschweig .
