Günzel Gerhard Alvo Werner Justus Adolf Ferdinand Reichsgraf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg (born February 13, 1934 at Wolfsburg Castle ; † July 25, 2018 ; commonly known as Günzel Graf von der Schulenburg ) was a German farmer and forester , entrepreneur and equestrian and Sports official .

Günzel Reichsgraf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg belonged to the noble Schulenburg family . He was born on the family seat of Wolfsburg Castle and was one of four children of Günther Werner Busso Graf von der Schulenburg (born April 15, 1891; † March 12, 1985) and Ursula, geb. Baroness von Dincklage (* July 27, 1905, † December 1, 1951), who married in 1928. His siblings were Ina (* 1929, married Freifrau von Schorlemer -Lieser), Werner (1930–1962) and Rudolf (* 1937). He was married to Alixandrine Reichsgräfin von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg (born September 19, 1934 in Wroclaw ; † July 13, 2015 in Wolfsburg), a born Countess Maltzan , Baroness zu Wartenberg and Penzlin since September 4, 1964 . The marriage had three children: Günther (* 1965), Clemens (* 1967) and Friedrich (* 1969).

Günzel Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg was born on February 13, 1934 at Wolfsburg Castle, but his parents had to move with him to the newly built Neumühle Castle in November 1942 , as the property belonging to Wolfsburg Castle was used for the construction of the Volkswagen factory and the associated facilities City of the KdF car (renamed Wolfsburg in 1945 ) was needed. There he attended the elementary school in Tangeln , at times he was also taught by a private tutor .

In 1945 his family fled with him to the British zone of occupation and settled on the Nordsteimke manor , as Neumühle Castle was assigned to the Soviet zone of occupation . His mother died as early as 1951 at the age of 46 in Wolfsburg as a result of a traffic accident.

He passed his Abitur at the Wolfsburg Oberschule, today's Ratsgymnasium . Günzel Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg completed a two-year agricultural apprenticeship and then studied agriculture at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna , and graduated in 1959 with a degree in agriculture . He then studied economics in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1963 he received his doctorate at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn on the economic and social structure of rural communities in the vicinity of the Volkswagen factory at the agricultural faculty.

In 1962 his older brother, Werner Graf von der Schulenburg, died of the consequences of a car accident, and Günzel Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg then moved to Nordsteimke and joined the Schulenburg'sche property management. On July 1, 1969, he took over the overall management of the estates and forests from his father. He managed this agricultural and forestry family property from the Nordsteimke manor near Wolfsburg, which had been in the family since it was acquired by Werner Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg in 1846. The forest administration manages a total of 5,300 hectares of forest area in the Wolfsburg region, the Altmark , the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide and in Fläming (Brandenburg). From Nordsteimke, the agricultural business in the city and in the neighboring district of Helmstedt produces arable crops such as grain, rapeseed and sugar beet on around 600 hectares. In addition, real estate, such as Gut Bisdorf , part of the Lüneburg knighthood , is managed. In 1998 he handed over the management of the business to his eldest son, Günther Graf von der Schulenburg. He continued to work as an entrepreneur in dental and environmental technology.

As an equestrian, he was involved in dressage, jumping and eventing competitions as a rider in his youth. On the occasion of his 50th birthday in 1984, he bought a carriage and discovered driving for himself. He was involved in the driving sport of carriage and pair up to Class S. In tandem - and random driving he won the Hamburg Derby tandem.

From 1994 to 2014 he was chairman of the driving specialist group in the German Rider and Driver Association (DRFV). From 1997 to 2002 he was also chairman of the driving committee of the German Olympic Committee for Horse Riding (DOKR) and responsible for the World Championships for four-in-hand drivers in 2000 in Wolfsburg. He was the initiator of the International Tournaments for Traditional Tension (CIAT) in Celle .

From 1972 to 1977 he was a member of the Wolfsburg City Council. He supported a large number of institutions and associations, among other things he was the patron of the Nordsteimker St. Nicolai Church, a founding member of the middle class association of the CDU district association and patron of the Protestant Pastor Bammel Foundation since it was founded in 2003.

He died on July 25, 2018 after a serious illness and was buried on August 10, 2018 in the presence of around 700 mourners at the family cemetery in Wolfsburg-Nordsteimke.
