Schematic structure of tension

When Random is called one of three horses and other draft animals drawn, mostly single-axle vehicle ( truck ), in which the animals succession tense are. If the animals are tied up next to each other, one speaks of a troika .

The front horse should be lighter and more elegant than the fork horse walking between the displays directly in front of the cart . The fork horse usually wears a kumt , while the middle and front horse are usually equipped with breastplate harness . Most of the tensile load is taken over by the fork horse.

Tandem and fringe tension come from England and have the advantage over horses walking next to each other that they can also be used on very narrow paths. Due to the unequal distribution of tensile loads (as with driving in six horses), the horses in front are hardly stressed and are available as rested riding horses after the journey. For this reason, tandem and fringe tension were also often used during hunts : when they arrived at their destination, the front horses were saddled for the hunt. In addition to these purely practical advantages, the edge tension has an elegant and representative effect and shows the ability of the driver and draft animals in addition to the horses that are effective.

A single-axle gig with very large wheels is almost always ridden in edge tension .

The edge tension is more difficult to drive than a six-in-hand car: it places high demands on the skills of the driver and the horses. Today it is driven almost exclusively for show purposes.
