Walmex is a Mexican company headquartered in Mexico City . The company is a subsidiary of the US company Walmart . It is listed in the Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores .

The company was founded in Mexico in 1954. The company has around 149,400 employees (as of 2008). Under the brands Superama , Suburbia , VIPS , Sam's Club and Bodega Aurrerá , more than 1,000 sales outlets, including restaurants and supermarkets, are operated in Mexico.

In 2004, a shop planned under the Bodega Aurreá brand in Teotihuacán came under public criticism. Because of the criticism, this shop was built a mile farther from the historical archaeological sites.
