Walter Asmus

Walter Asmus (* 1903 in Neumünster ; † 1996 ) was a German educational scientist and university professor in teacher training .

In 1923 Asmus passed the first teacher examination at the teachers' seminar in Rendsburg . From 1929 to 1933 he studied philosophy, education, psychology and history in Hamburg and Kiel. In 1933 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. in Kiel. From 1933 to 1938 he worked in school. 1938 to 1941 he worked as a lecturer at the Elbing College for Teacher Training . From 1941 to 1945 he did military service. From 1946 to 1950 he was a lecturer and professor at the Flensburg University of Education . In 1950 he became director and professor at the Pedagogical Institute in Weilburg . From 1954 to 1963 he taught as a full professor at the Pedagogical Institute in Darmstadt-Jugenheim and from 1963 to 1972 as a full professor at the University of Giessen . He was retired in 1977.

Asmus made important contributions to Johann Friedrich Herbart and Gustav Schilling .
