Walter Bieber

Walter Bieber (* 20th October 1948 in Sieglar , Siegkreis ; † 20th January 2017 in Troisdorf ) was a German politician of the SPD . He lived in Troisdorf, was married and had two sons and a granddaughter.

education and profession

After attending elementary school and high school, Walter Bieber completed an apprenticeship as a high-voltage electrician from 1964 to 1967, which he completed in 1967 with the skilled worker examination. He worked in this profession until September 1970. On the second path of education, he obtained the technical college entrance qualification in 1969 and the Abitur in 1972. From 1973 to 1977 he studied law and political science at the University of Bonn . From 1977 Bieber was an assistant and from 1981 research assistant to a member of the Bundestag. From 1984 to 1995 he acted as a speaker for the deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, Ingrid Matthäus-Maier. From May 1995 to June 2000 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since December 2000 he has been head of the “Special Management, Region and Transport Policy” staff unit at Flughafen Köln / Bonn GmbH. Walter Bieber was retired on May 1, 2014.

He died on the morning of January 20, 2017 at the age of 68.

Walter Bieber had been a member of the SPD since 1970. Since 1973 he was a member of the board and from 1995 to 2000 chairman of the SPD Troisdorf. He was also a city councilor from 1975 to 2001 and from 1982 to 1998 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the city council of Troisdorf. From October 1998 to October 1999 he was the last honorary mayor of the city of Troisdorf. After the local elections in 1999 there was only the full-time mayor at the head of the council and administration due to the changed municipal regulations in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Walter Bieber was directly elected member of the 12th state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from June 1, 1995 to June 1, 2000 for the constituency 030 Rhein-Sieg-Kreis IV (Siegburg, Troisdorf, Niederkassel). He was a member of the executive committee of the SPD state parliamentary group, a member of the transport committee and spokesman for the SPD in the parliament's inquiry committee “Future of Mobility”. In 1998 he was appointed as an expert in the "Integrated Transport Policy Working Group" at the Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Housing (graduated in 2002). On May 23, 1999 he was a member of the Federal Assembly for the election of the Federal President.

Walter Bieber had been a member of the Workers Welfare Association since 1970 and a member of the Lions Club Troisdorf since 2000, with the presidency in the Lions year 2011/2012.

On June 23, 2004, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Federal President Johannes Rau .
