Career

Essom played in local football for Carey Hall FC and Leicester Imperial, as well as in selection teams in the British Army, before joining Leicester City in mid-1919 . There Essom, who was also active as a rugby player at British United, played in September of the second division season 1919/20 as a replacement for Sam Currie two missions on the position of left defender. In the two consecutive home and away games against Fulham (3: 2 (H) and 0: 5 (A)), the result was a balanced record. At the end of the season, Essom, whose family earned their money as hoteliers in Ashby-de-la-Zouch , joined the local club Ashby Town , which he led in 1924 as team captain to the championship in the Leicestershire Senior League .
