Walter Gerhard Forster (born March 23, 1917 in Campinas , Brazil ; † September 3, 1996 in São Paulo , Brazil) was a Brazilian actor, radio and television presenter.

Life

Forster's paternal grandparents immigrated to Brazil from Germany; his mother came from German-speaking Switzerland. From 1935 on he was a spokesman and subsequently also an editor for various radio stations in the state of São Paulo . In 1950, the radio company Rádio Tupi founded the first television program in Brazil, TV Tupi , which went on air on September 18, 1950 in São Paulo. As the artistic director of Rádio Tupi, Walter Forster played a key role in the planning, organization and programming of the country's first television station. Forster's idea goes back to the first telenovela in television history, Sua Vida Me Pertence , which was broadcast from December 21, 1951 in 25 episodes two days a week by TV Tupi. Forster was not only the author and director of this novela, but also stood in front of the camera as an actor. In addition to his work as a presenter, author and developer of programs for various television companies, Forster also remained loyal to radio as a presenter. In addition, he has also appeared as an actor in telenovelas and feature films since the mid-1960s. After his wife, with whom he had been married since 1942 and with whom he had two children, died in 1983, Forster largely withdrew from his regular radio and television activities, but still took on numerous engagements as an actor.
