Walter Haefeli

Walter Haefeli (born November 20, 1917 ; † July 18, 2013 ) was a Swiss cellist .

Haefeli was born the son of an authorized signatory in a small watch factory.

As a musician, Haefeli was a student of Richard Sturzenegger at the Bern Conservatory and of Pierre Fournier in Paris. In 1944 he was engaged with the Beromünster Radio Orchestra in Zurich, where he became first cellist the following year. In 1960 he moved to the same position at the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, where he played until 1982. Haefeli also played in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and was a member of the Piraccini-Stucki string quartet with Giuseppe Piraccini, Aida Stucki and Gerhard Wieser. He also gave music lessons.
