Walter Hahn (journalist)

Walter Hahn (* 1929 in Wittenberg ; † December 31, 1996 in Brussels ) was a German journalist and radio host. He became known as the head of the WDR studio in Brussels for many years and an expert on Europe (1973–1994).

Life

Hahn studied history and German at the Free University of Berlin and also worked as a journalist for the Berliner Zeitung , the RIAS Berlin and the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) . In 1961 he became editor and reporter for the broadcaster Free Berlin (SFB) and in 1962 he switched to the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) as a radio reporter . In 1964/65 he founded the Mittagsmagazin there together with Dieter Thoma and others , whose first broadcasts he also moderated in January 1965. For a while he was a correspondent at the WDR-Studio Bonn and in 1973 became head of the Studio Brussels, which is operated jointly by WDR and NDR. He stayed there until his retirement at the end of 1994.
