Walter Möbius (painter)

Walter Möbius (* 1902 in Greppin , Bitterfeld District , Province of Saxony , † 1979 ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Live and act

From 1920 Walter Möbius attended the Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig , teachers were among others Walter Tiemann and Bruno Héroux , with whom he maintained contact by letters afterwards. During these years, his works were shown for the first time in exhibitions at the Academy. From around 1926 (?) Möbius studied at the Art Academy ( United State Schools ) in Berlin-Charlottenburg . In 1929 there was a first special exhibition with his own works in Leipzig.

Since 1934 Walter Möbius lived in his hometown Greppin as a freelance artist. In the following years he was involved in other exhibitions with his own works. In the 1950s and 1960s he mainly created graphics and worked as an art teacher in the working people's club in Greppin.

In 2005 there was an exhibition of watercolors and graphics in the city palace in Vetschau.

His most important work is an altar painting Entombment , which he created in 1924 for the memorial chapel of the Catholic Church in Greppin with the help of the architect Johannes Reuter. Most of his works are in private hands.
