Walter Mai (born May 13, 1936 in Prague ) is a German naval officer, regatta sailor and Olympic participant.

Life

The professional soldier Walter Mai began his sailing career in 1963 with a seventh place in the boat class Finn-Dinghy at the Kiel Week . This was the start of a successful series of the sailor , who is still starting today for the Yacht Club Bad Wiessee .

  • 1996 - 3rd of the World Masters
  • 2006 - Masters Legends Winner (Age Group 70+)

His greatest success was his participation in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , where he reached 12th place in the Finn class at the sailing competitions in Kiel- Schilksee, ahead of the later President of the IOC , the Belgian Jacques Rogge , who crossed the finish line as 14th overall.
