Walter McFarland

Walter McFarland (* 1945 ; † August 15, 2014 ) was a Northern Irish football player and coach as well as judoka .

Athletic career

McFarland played for Crusaders FC in the Irish League in the 1960s and 1970s . With the club he won the championship title in 1973 for the first time in club history, three years later he repeated the success with the team. He also won the Irish Cup in 1967 and 1968 . After the end of his active career, he took over the coaching position at the club, later he also looked after the Ballyclare Comrades .

McFarland was one of the few Northern Irish judoka to take part in international competitions, and in 2001 he won the senior title of World Masters Champion.
