Walter Schlee (screenwriter)
Walter Schlee , born in Walter Schlesinger (born December 15, 1894 in Kempen , Posen Province , Germany ; † February 9, 1964 in Lugano , Switzerland ) was a German screenwriter .
Life
Schlee submitted his first script in 1929. Schlee worked with his colleague Walter Wassermann until 1933 . During this period, the duo provided the scripts for numerous film comedies.
The " seizure of power " by the National Socialists ended Schlee's career in Germany. He emigrated to the Netherlands , where he was initially able to continue his work as a screenwriter for the local cinema. In 1937 he went to London , where he was able to complete his first novel, Pebbles in the Stream , which appeared in March 1939, the following year . His next book was Isn't Life Wonderful? . In 1940 the Jew Schlee / Schlesinger was expatriated by Germany's National Socialists. After the war he lived in Lugano, Switzerland, until his death.
Schlee was married to the Dutch actress Margot 'Dolly' Mollinger (1911-2004) since 1936.
