Walter Strickland (Esquire)

Walter Strickland of Sizergh Castle (* around 1411, † around 1467) was an English Esquire .

Life

Walter Strickland was a son of Thomas II Strickland and Mabel, daughter of Sir John Betham. The Stricklands were associated with wealthy Westmorland landowners and the Neville family, the Earls of Westmorland .

Walter Strickland was by Heinrich VI. Appointed Keeper of Park Calgarth in 1437 and Receiver General of all Rents in and about Kendal a year later . In 1439 Walter Strickland was appointed High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire and in 1442 with the drafting of supply troops from John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury , who were to go to Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York in Normandy .

In the years from 1450 his ability to raise considerable troops became important. In 1450 he confirmed that he was able to set up a unit of 143 horsemen and 47 men on foot and in 1452 he assured Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury, an army of over 280 men, some on horseback.

After the Wars of the Roses broke out , Walter Strickland fought for the House of York at the First Battle of St Albans (1455) and Blore Heath (1459).

Walter Strickland died around 1467.

Walter Strickland was married to Douce Croft.

They had the following children:
