Walter de Dunstanville (also Walter I de Dunstanville ) († around 1195) was an English knight.

Walter de Dunstanville came from the Anglo-Norman family Dunstanville . He was probably a son of Alan I de Dunstanville (fl. 1141), who had supported the Empress Matilda during the anarchy . Probably from his father he inherited properties in Shropshire and Sussex . After the death of his uncle Robert de Dunstanville in 1166 or 1167 he inherited his estates in Wiltshire , and together with his younger brother Alan II de Dunstanville he confirmed in 1169 his uncle's gifts to Monkton Farleigh Priory . His sister Adeliza († around 1210) married Thomas Basset , a knight of the royal household. Walter testified several times to documents from King Heinrich II. And from his son Johann Ohneland , when he was Count of Mortain. However, he could not take the position that his uncle Robert had held at the royal court. Apparently he supported the revolt of Johann Ohneland at the beginning of the 1190s during the absence of King Richard the Lionheart , because in 1194 he was expropriated by Richard the Lionheart after his return from the Third Crusade . He then took a crusade vow, but died before he could leave for Palestine .

His son Walter II de Dunstanville (around 1192-1241) became his heir .
