Alan de Dunstanville

Alan de Dunstanville (also Alan de Dunstanville II ; † before 1199) was an English knight.

Alan de Dunstanville came from the Anglo-Norman family Dunstanville . He was a younger brother of Walter I de Dunstanville , presumably they were both sons of Alan I de Dunstanville (fl. 1141). Before 1169, Alan and his brother confirmed the donations made by his uncle Robert de Dunstanville to Monkton Farleigh Priory in Wiltshire. In 1180 Alan became administrator of the former estates of Walter Giffard, 2nd Earl of Buckingham in Oxfordshire , and he also owned estates in Cornwall.

Alan married Muriel de Langetot (* 1155), a daughter of Geoffrey fitz William. By marriage he acquired Shiplake in Oxfordshire. He had several children with her, including:

  • Walter de Dunstanville († before 1206)
  • Alan III de Dunstanville († after 1216)
  • Geoffrey de Dunstanville († 1234)

His heir was initially his son Walter, after whose death his younger son Alan III. This and his brother Geoffrey died childless, so that the property in Cornwall fell to the descendants of Alan's daughters.
