Reginald de Vautort († 1245)

Reginald de Vautort (also Reginald de Vautort II ) (* before 1206; † 1245 ) was an English nobleman.

Reginald de Vautort came from the Anglo-Norman family Vautort . He was the eldest son of Roger de Vautort and was still a minor when his father died in late 1206. He came of age around 1211 and took over his inheritance, which included over 55 properties of the Honor of Trematon in Devon and Cornwall . During the First War of the Barons , he appeared to have been loyal to King John Ohneland . In November 1216 he testified with the renewed recognition of the Magna Carta by the Regency Council, which was responsible for the minor Henry III. the government had taken over. As a thank you, the Regency Council confirmed that he owned the Honor of Harberton , whose possession had already been promised to his father. In 1221 and 1224 Vautort served as sheriff of Cornwall. In the next few years he took on various local offices, and in 1242 he successfully took action against the rebel William de Marisco on Lundy Island on behalf of the king .

In 1240 he deposed the accused of infidelity prior of the Modbury Priory founded by his ancestors . To this end, he took over the patronage of Buckfast Priory from the Nonant family and favored the St Michael's Mount Priory in Cornwall and St Nicholas Priory in Exeter . The privileges of the 1201 first mentioned boroughs of Saltash he confirmed.

Vautort married Joan, one of the daughters of Thomas Basset from Headington , Oxfordshire . Through this marriage he acquired rights to properties near Colyton in Devon, which were also claimed by Walter III de Dunstanville . Vautort had no surviving children from his marriage. His brother Ralph de Vautort II became his heir.
