Roland Wambeck

Roland Wambeck (born June 26, 1926 - † October 19, 2018 ) was a German conductor, choir director and former general music director of the Magdeburg Philharmonic.

Life

Wambeck directed the Magdeburg Philharmonic from 1968 to 1992 . During this time he was also chief conductor of the Magdeburg municipal orchestra and artistic director of the music theater of the city's municipal theaters . One artistic focus was on maintaining concert literature from the 18th to 20th centuries. From 1986 to 1991, and thus also during the time of political change , he headed the Telemann working group.

He died on October 19, 2018. His burial took place on October 29, 2018 in the Westfriedhof Magdeburg .

Awards

In 1996 he received the Telemann Cup on the occasion of his 70th birthday . On July 10, 1998 he was awarded an honorary member of the Magdeburg Theater. In 2001 he signed the Golden Book of the City of Magdeburg .
