Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah

Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah (* 1978 ) is a Singaporean politician ( People's Action Party ) who has been a member of the Singapore Parliament since July 10, 2020 .

Education, work and family

At secondary school, Wan Rizal completed the Normal (Academic) course . In 1999 he graduated from Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore with a degree in electronics . He then served until 2003 as Senior Officer (Lieutenant) in the Singapore Civil Defense Force. After graduating from the National Institute of Education with an Physical Education Diploma in 2005, he taught physical education at Ngee Ann Primary School for two years. At the age of 31, he graduated from Nanyang Technological University in 2009 with a BA in Sports. He then taught for three years as a physical education teacher at the Hougang Primary School. When he started his master's degree, he gave up this job due to the double burden. Since 2016 he has been a Senior Lecturer at the School of Sports, Health and Leisure of the Republic Polytechnic . In 2017, he received his PhD in Sports Science from Nanyang Technological University.

Wan Rizal is married and has four children.

Political career

Wan Rizal became a member of the People's Action Party in 2018 after helping then MP Zainal Sapari at its meet-the-people sessions for a year in 2017. He ran in the 2020 general election in the constituency of Jalan Besar GRC (Kolam Ayer Division) to replace Yaacob Ibrahim . His constituency team also included MPs Denise Phua , Josephine Teo, and Heng Chee How.
