The Wanapitei Lake ( French Lac Wanapitei ) is a crater lake in Greater Sudbury in the north of the Canadian province of Ontario .
Its crater was formed about 37 million years ago by an asteroid impact . The flooded impact crater is near the Sudbury Basin , which was also created by an asteroid 1.8 billion years ago.
The lake has a diameter of about 7.5 km.
