At 980 m, Wandel Peak is the highest mountain on Booth Island in the Wilhelm Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 800 m south of Gourdon Peak .
Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery , leader of the Belgica expedition (1897–1899), named the island, already named Booth Island by Eduard Dallmann , as Île Wandel . In order to preserve de Gerlache's name, this was later transferred to the mountain described here. It is named after the Danish hydrograph Carl Frederik Wandel (1843–1930), who was involved in the preparations for the research trip.
