The Wanderers FC was an English football club from the district Battersea in London , which was successful in the 1870s.

history

1859 to 1887

The club emerged from Forest FC , which was formed in 1859 and was one of the founding members of the Football Association (FA) in 1863 . In 1871/72 the Wanderers were the first to win the FA Cup , the oldest cup competition in the history of football. Overall, the club was five-time cup winners in the years 1872 to 1878. In 1887, the club was dissolved.

Outstanding players were: Charles William Alcock ( FA secretary 1870–1895, then treasurer and vice president of the FA, editor of the first football yearbook in 1870, head of delegation of the English national team at the three unofficial international matches in Germany in 1899), Charles Wollaston , Walpole Vidal ( Prince of dribblers ), Morton Betts (scored the first and decisive FA Cup final goal ), Hubert Heron and Arthur Kinnaird, 11th Lord Kinnaird (1890-1923 FA President).

Today the name Wanderers u. a. worn by the Bolton Wanderers , Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wycombe Wanderers .

In 2009, a club was founded under the same name, which participates in the league operations of the Surrey South Eastern Combination , the 12th level in the English football system, and refers to the tradition of the original club. In addition, the FA Cup final of 1871/72 against the Royal Engineers AFC was repeated at The Oval Stadium .
