The Völuspá -Lied der Lieder- Edda and Snorris Prosa-Edda report in different ways about the Wanenkrieg (also Asen-Wanen-War , gods war ), a war of gods in Norse mythology . The groups known as the gods of the north ( Asen and Vanes ) lived separately from one another at the beginning of the war; the one in Asgard and the other in Wanenheim . The account of the Van War begins in stanzas 25-28:
There was murder in the world first,
When they met Geeren Gulweig (the gold force),
In the high hall the bright ones burned.
Burned three times, she was born three times,
Often, not rare, but she is alive.
She was called heathen wherever she went, well-
spoken Wala tamed wolves.
She could brew art, she stole salvation,
evil people darling always.
Then the advisors went to the
seats of the judges, most
holy gods held advice,
whether the sir should punish unfaithfulness,
or all gods receive atonement
The castle wall was broken by the Assir,
battle knowledge Wanen stamped the field.
Odin hurled the spit on the people:
Then murder came first in the world.
Gullveig, who some see the goddess Freya in , is a Vanessa witch. In their name is the word Gull for gold. She tells the sir of the fabulous wealth of the Vanes. When she refuses to reveal the source of wealth, she is burned. But since she rises from the ashes several times, she is chased away with disgrace and shame. It is therefore recognized in another version.
