Wang Yan (athlete)

Wang Yan (born May 3, 1971 in Liaoning Province ) is a former Chinese walker .

In 1986, Wang set two world records in track walking: it took 21: 33.8 minutes over 5000 meters and 12: 39.1 minutes over 3000 meters. At 14 years and 310 days, she was the youngest athletics world record holder of all time.

In the 10 km street walk she won bronze in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta in 42:19 minutes behind Russian Jelena Nikolajewa in 41:49 minutes and Italian Elisabetta Perrone in 42:12 minutes.

At the 1999 World Championships in Seville , the distance of 20 km was held for the first time . Wang finished two seconds behind her compatriot Liu Hongyu with 1:30:52 h and won silver.

With a height of 1.68 m, her competition weight was 50 kg.
