Wangchuk Namgyal
Wangchuk Tenzing Namgyal (born April 1, 1953 in Gangtok ) is the second son of Palden Thondup Namgyal , the last sovereign king of Sikkim .
Namgyal was raised in England and was crowned the 13th Chögyal of Sikkim in 1982 . Originally, his older brother Crown Prince Tenzing Namgyal was intended for the throne, but he died in a traffic accident. Since Sikkim was annexed to India in 1975, the Chögyal of Sikkim has only been a pretender to the throne ; his influence is limited to religious matters.
Wangchuk Namgyal should not be confused with the king of the neighboring country Bhutan , King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck .
