The Wansdyke (from Woden's Dyke or Wotan's Dyke) is a historic defensive wall in the west of England . It extends from the Bristol area in an easterly direction to Wiltshire .

The Wansdyke is divided into three parts that are 14, 22 and 19 km long. It consists of an earth wall and a ditch.

The complex is dated to the post-Roman period in the 5th or 6th century. It is believed that the Celts had a line of defense to protect them to the north against the Saxons coming from the upper valley of the Thames .
