history

The coat of arms was designed by the Gautinger heraldist Heinz Bessling .

The horse in the upper part of the coat of arms comes from the coat of arms of Count Fraunberger zu Haag . For centuries, Sankt Wolfgang was part of the former county of Haag .

The ax in the lower part of the coat of arms refers to the name of the municipality. It is one of the attributes of St. Wolfgang, who is venerated in the pilgrimage church in memory of a spring awakened by him in the 10th century under the altar of the Wolfgang chapel.

The government of Upper Bavaria approved the use of the coat of arms by the municipality with a resolution of June 12, 1973.
