Hot strip
Hot strip is an intermediate product in steel and non-ferrous metal production. It is much longer than it is wide and is transported rolled up in bundles, so-called coils . It is made by hot rolling . The tape thickness can be between about 0.8 and 25 mm (1 "). Depending on the width, a distinction is made between:
- Narrow band (<100 mm),
- Central belt (100–600 mm),
- Broadband (600-2200 mm).
The hot strip is the starting material for cold strip . It is also directly z. B. used in mechanical engineering and is also processed into sheet metal .
The primary material is cast or rough- rolled slabs . The raw material is formed in a rolling mill in several passes (rolling passes) into a thinner and longer strip.
The rolling mill can also be connected directly to the casting plant (see e.g. Compact Strip Production , CSP). This eliminates the need for energy-intensive reheating of the slabs and some process steps, which reduces manufacturing costs.
