Warrior is an arcade game that was developed by the Vectorbeam company in 1979. It is the oldest known fighting game for two people and a pioneer of fighting games like Street Fighter and Tekken .

Game description

The game depicts a sword fight between two knights from a bird's eye view and requires two players. Both figures are controlled with an 8-way joystick each ; a button has to be laboriously switched between player and weapon mode. Originally, every player should have two joysticks, one to control the fighter and one to control the sword.

The aim of the game is to kill the opponent, either directly with a sword hit, or by forcing the opponent into one of the two square chasms that are in the middle of the screen.

hardware

The CCPU processor only shows the white figures as vector graphics and the score on a 19-inch monitor. The detailed background, which is printed on a colored plastic film ( overlay ), is supplemented with the rest of the graphics using a semi-transparent mirror.

emulation

The game can be played today with the help of an emulator , e.g. B. MAME be played.
