The washing mill (popularly known as Wesch ) is one of two outdoor swimming pools in Kaiserslautern . The pool, which opened on June 4, 1908, has a water surface of 7,400 m². The only pool is 165.3 meters long.

The facility is located in Eselsbachtal , north of Kaiserslautern on the road to Morlautern . At the end of the 19th century, a washing mill was built on this site, which used the water power of the stream to operate a laundry . At the turn of the century, the Kaiserslautern swimming club was founded with the idea of a bath in the place of the washing mill. With the help of powerful donors, the building was completed and in 1908 the pool with a water surface of over 10,000 m² was opened. The bath facility, also known as the “washing mill”, was fed directly from the Eselsbach. Next to the large basin, an elongated wing of wooden changing rooms in Art Nouveau style was created . The bathroom was divided into a men's section in the west and a women's section in the east.

In the 1980s, the water surface was reduced to 7,400 m² for cost reasons, and in the mid-1990s the Eselsbach creek was stopped. Since then, the water has come from deep wells . Nevertheless, the bath water in the washing mill is pleasantly fresh even in summer - the temperature is usually between 19 and 21 ° C, on hot days it rises to 26 ° C, which is due to the location in the rather narrow valley.

The pool was popular with the population right from the start because of the large play and sunbathing area. There is a ten-meter diving platform and two diving boards. In the mid-1990s, the city council wanted to again reduce the water surface because of high renovation costs to 40 percent this time, he managed a citizens' initiative with a public petition to get the bathroom in his historical figure. In 2011 the washing mill was renovated and reopened on June 28, 2012 with a new, completely revised filter system (pressure disc filter system) and a chlorine gas system for chlorinating the water. These technical measures were necessary in order to meet the new requirements of the changed DIN 19643 regulations and to guarantee consistently good water quality.
