Washington Blade was an LGBT newspaper in the United States .

history

Washington Blade was founded in 1969 and was the oldest and, after New York City's Gay City News , the highest-circulation LGBT newspaper in the United States. The LGBT news was organized locally, nationally and internationally. It appeared weekly on Fridays with a circulation of 24,500 issues. The editorial office was able to use its headquarters in the capital of the USA to gain access to Congress and the administration.

The newspaper had belonged to the US company Window Media since 2001 and was mainly available in Washington, DC , Maryland , northern Virginia and Delaware . On November 16, 2009 it was announced that the newspaper had stopped the publication of the otherwise profitable paper due to the bankruptcy of Window Media .

The Blade staff seamlessly launched the new DC Agenda sheet . The publishing house, Brown Naff Pitts Omnimedia, Inc., bought the entire rights to the Washington Blade in February 2010, including the 40 year long print and online archive.
