Water supply
In hydrology, the term water supply describes the amount of water that occurs in a certain area for a certain period of time in the form of surface or groundwater as a component of the earth's water cycle .
Subdivision
- Potential water supply
 - the difference between the long-term mean values of precipitation [P] and evaporation [ET]
 - Stable water supply
 - the potential water supply minus the rapidly flowing flood
 - Regulated water supply
 - water provided by storage management

Criteria for the availability of the water supply
- Hydrological
 - is determined by the space-time processes of the water cycle and the loss of use; Quantity per time unit Q [m³ / s]
 - Ecologically
 - is determined by the quality class (water quality) and after a sustainable influence on ecosystems through water abstraction and use in the extraction area
 - Technically
 - is determined by the conditions of the holding, transport and processing as well as the current state of the art
 - Economically
 - is determined according to the economically justifiable expenditure for the development of water [€ / m²]
 - Legal
 - legal agreements, d. H. Ask who is allowed to use which water resource
