The water area with wood and reeds is a natural monument on the eastern edge of the Darmstadt-Arheilgen district .
geomorphology
Most of the area ( winning name : "An der Kieskaute") is located southeast of the Darmstadt-Aschaffenburg railway line , while a small part (winning name: "On the plate") is located northwest of the railway line.
There is also a dirt road on the area .
Botanically, the area can be divided into 3 ecotopes :
- a pond zone
- an overgrown orchard meadow region
- a ruderal area

The pond (winning designation: "Strohhauer Teich") has several reed zones and is surrounded by the typical woods of a softwood meadow:

Natural monument
The area has been a natural monument since 1956. The reason for protection is conservation as an amphibian and reptile reserve .
