Weiherdamm moated castle

The moated castle Weiherdamm , also called Burg zu Schuttertal , is an abandoned moated castle near the parish church on the left bank of the Schutter in the village of Schuttertal (Pfarrgutstrasse), a current district of the community of Schuttertal in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg .

In 1470 the castle was first named in a feudal contract between Diebold von Hohengeroldseck and Kaspar von Waldstein as ".. das huss vnd bürg zu schutterdale, located by sant anthonie (parish church of Schuttertal) with the garden vff dem graben, schüre, huss vnd hoff vor dem closed and two days matten all nest daby .. “mentioned. Since Kaspar von Waldstein undertook to complete the building when he took over the fief, it can be assumed that the castle was built a few years before 1470.

Presumably the castle, which was considered to be in ruins after 1491 and was a stables in 1531 , was destroyed in the peasants' war.

From the former castle complex on a floor plan of 22 by 26 meters, surrounded by a 19-meter-wide moat fed by the rubble, the cellar and the castle well are still preserved.
