IC 523 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 386 million light years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 13, 1893 .
