IC 517 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 419 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2616 , IC 514 , IC 515 , IC 516 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 20, 1893 .
