IC 500 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation Hare on the northern sky . It is estimated to be 195 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.

The astronomical object was discovered on February 11, 1893 by the French astronomer Stéphane Javelle .
