IC 516 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 496 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2616 , IC 514 , IC 515 , IC 517 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 21, 1893 .
