IC 533 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type S in the constellation Hydra south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 249 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 75,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 2850 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on February 18, 1893 .
