IC 549 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 53 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 5,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2960 and NGC 2966 , among others .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on February 19, 1894 .
