IC 566 is a compact lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Sextant south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 483 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3018 , NGC 3023 , IC 560 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on March 9, 1893 .
